But Now

Romans 7 (cont.)

I do not understand my own actions. Sometimes I do the very thing I hate. But now, by god’s grace, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me, that is in my flesh.  But, hallelujah, I have a desire to do what is right, even though I sometimes lack the ability to carry it out; for I delight in the law of God in my inner man. So my members wage war against my mind’s desire to serve and obey God.

But, praise God, I am in Christ and Christ is in me. He has delivered me from the penalty and possession of sin. There is a new man in me; he is incarcerated in this old sinner flesh, but he is divine in person and performance. He knows God, and he is God.  He is perfectly able to obey God and to bear the fruit of God. So then, with my mind, in my new man, I obey God. I reckon myself dead to sin and alive, forever more, to the spirit of God.

Would Not – Could Not

Romans 7

I rebelled against God. Even after I received Christ, I disobeyed God. Even when I knew what not to do, and even when I didn’t want to disobey, I found there were times when I would not keep the commandments and times when I could not keep the commandments.  But now, I realize I have died to the law through the life and death of my Lord Jesus. This is by god’s grace and purpose so that I am free to belong to Christ. I am released from the law of sin and death, even though it once held me captive, so that I could serve in the new way of the Spirit and not in the old way of the written code.

The law is holy and the commandment is holy and righteous and good; it does not bring death but it shows me that sin is sin and that I have been sinful beyond measure.

Would Be Glorified

1 Peter 2

I have trusted you, heavenly father, and I know that you are good. I long for your spiritual food for me each day as I grow up into salvation. I come to you today as a living stone, chosen and precious to you, to be built up as part of your spiritual house; to be a holy priesthood to offer spiritual sacrifices that are acceptable to you, father, through my Lord Jesus, the Christ.  He is the corner stone, chosen by you, holy and precious, and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.

By your grace and choice, father, I am of a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, one of your own possessions, father, that I may proclaim your excellencies as you have called me out of darkness into your marvelous light.  Once I was not a people, but now I am your person; once I did not receive mercy, but now I have received mercy. I pray others would see God in my deeds and that God,my father, would be glorified.

Live and Move

Acts 17

Heavenly father, you have made this world and all things in it. You are the Lord of heaven and earth. You do not dwell in temples made of hands, neither are you worshiped with my hands as if you needed anything from me. It is you who gives life to all, and breath and all things.  You have kept and chosen your people from all the nations. You have determined all the times beforehand and appointed the boundaries of each life.

By your grace and call, I seek after you, and I find you, for you are near to me. In you, father, through the grace of the Lord Jesus, and the fellowship of your Holy Spirit, I live and move and have my being. I am quick to repent and assured that you are able to keep me as you have kept and raised the Lord Jesus from the dead.  I receive your word with all readiness of mind and search your scripture with gladness and eager anticipation.

Nothing of God is Common

Acts 10

Lord, fill me and take charge of me today that I would arise in your spirit and get going; doubting nothing of you and your word. You have shown me not to call any man common or unclean.  Let me hear today, father, all the things you want me to hear. I hear and perceive, father, that you are no respecter of persons, but everyone who fears you and works (your) righteousness is accepted to you.

You sent that word to me, Lord; preaching Jesus Christ as Lord of all. You anointed Jesus of Nazareth with your Holy Spirit and with power, and he went about doing good and healing, for you, heavenly father, were with him. You provided witnesses of Jesus’ glory, and commanded them to preach to the people, and inspired them to write your words and the things they had seen and touched and tasted. From your words, through these apostles, I have come to believe in and into Jesus and receive him as my righteousness.

I Will Seek And Not Be Afraid

Hebrews 1

Today, father, you speak to me through my Lord Jesus. You have appointed him heir of all things, through him you created the world.   He is the radiance of your glory, father, and the exact imprint of your nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power.

After Jesus, your Christ, made purification for sins, he has sat down at your right hand in the presence of your majesty. You have begotten him and called him son.  You say, “let all my angels worship him. Your throne, oh God, is forever and ever”.

You, Jesus’ God and father, have anointed him with the oil of gladness. You tell him, “come my son, sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet”.  Such is my great Lord and Savior, Jesus, the Christ. In him is my salvation. I see him and I am not afraid.

Attested To Me By God

Acts 2

Lord Jesus, you are the Messiah, attested to me by God the father by mighty works and wonders and signs that he did through you. You were delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of our father. You were crucified and killed by the hands of lawless man(of whom I was once one). God, our father, raised you up, loosed you from the pangs of death, because it was not possible for death to hold you.

In this way you, Lord Jesus, have made known to me the way of life and you make me full of gladness with your presence. Lord Jesus, God the father has made you both Lord and Christ.  I am quick to repent in the name of Jesus and gladly receive forgiveness. I have received the gift of the Holy Spirit.  I thank you, Jesus of Nazareth, that I am saved by your perfect life and your atoning sacrifice. You are my Lord and Savior.

Have Made Me Your Son

John 17 & I John 3

I am in this world but I thank you, father, that by your grace, I am not of this world. Thank you, father, that you keep me from evil and that you sanctify me with your truth; your word is truth.  By your grace and presence in me, father, you have made us one as you are in Jesus and as Jesus is in you; you, father, are in me and I am in you; I am one with you, my heavenly father. Behold, what manner of love you have bestowed on me that you, father, have made me your son.

Lord Jesus, your glory dwells in me; the glory of the only begotten son of Almighty God. You are in me, Lord Jesus and I am a perfected by your everlasting presence.   I behold your glory now in special unseen ways, but I know that soon you will appear and I shall see you as you are and I will be like you. I know that you, Lord Jesus, are the Messiah sent to save my soul, and that my heavenly father, loves me with a perfect, steadfast love.

The Comforter

John 15&16

Thank you, Lord Jesus, that I am clean through the words you have spoken to me. I abide in you and you abide in me, and the fruit of the spirit comes forth through me. I abide in you, Lord, and you abide in me so I can ask for things that suit your will and those things are done for me.  Herein is the father glorified that much fruit is borne in me; fruit that will last.

I keep my eyes on your commandments and let them take charge of my thoughts, and I abide in the love of God, my heavenly father.  The joy of the Lord remains in me and my joy is full.

Lord Jesus, you call me friend and you have chosen me and ordained me that I should go and bring forth fruit and that that fruit should remain.  God, my father, has given me the Holy Spirit, the spirit of truth, and God the spirit fills me and guides me into all truth.  The Holy Spirit glorifies the Lord Jesus in me, and receives from Jesus, and shows those things to me.

The Newness of Life

Eph 1, Romans 5

From before the foundation of the world, father, you chose me to be in Christ and saved me from your wrath. You chose me to be your child and a joint heir with Jesus.  Through Jesus’ life and atoning death and resurrection you saved me from sin’s condemnation and its bondage. You reconciled me to you.  Your grace, father, and the free gift, by the grace of my Lord and Savior, Jesus, the Christ, has abounded to me and to many others. It is a free gift that brings justification.

All who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus, my Lord and Savior. By his obedience many are made righteous. Where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, so that as sin reigned in death, grace also reigned through righteousness and led to eternal life through Jesus Christ, my Lord. I am raised from the dead by your glory, father, to walk in the newness of life.
