Long Ago

Hebrews 1

Long ago at many times and in many ways you spoke to us, father, through your prophets, but in these days you speak to me by your son, my Lord Jesus, your Christ.  You have appointed him heir of all things; through him you created this world. He is the radiance of your glory, father, and the exact imprint of your nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power.

He made purification for my sins and sat down at the right hand of your majesty, father. He is superior to the angels, and you have given him the most excellent name. You call him your, “begotten son “. You say, “let all my angels worship him “.  You say, “his throne is forever and ever.  The scepter of uprightness is the scepter of his kingdom”.  He loves righteousness and therefore, you, father, have anointed the Lord Jesus with the oil of gladness beyond all his companions.

Your Loving Kindness

Father, your goodness and loving kindness are apparent to me. You have saved me; not because of my works but according to your own mercy. You saved me by the washing of regeneration, and the renewal of your Holy Spirit, whom you poured out on me richly through Jesus Christ, my Savior.  Since I am justified by his grace, I am an heir according to the hope of eternal life. For your grace appeared to me, father, bringing salvation for me and for all those that are yours. Your grace trained me to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live a temperate life; an upright and godly life in the present age as I wait on my blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of my great God and Savior, Jesus the Christ.

He gave himself for me to redeem me from all lawlessness and to purify me for himself, so that, I would be a man of his own possesion who is zealous for good works, able to help others in urgent need and fruitful in the eternal and divine things of God.

Make Me Worthy

I’ll give thanks to you, father, for claiming me as your son, and for giving me the gift of faith. I pray now that that faith would grow abundantly in me, and that my love for you and for others would increase every day.  Fill me, Holy Spirit, and take charge of my thoughts and beliefs that I will be steadfast and faithful in all of the trials and afflictions that may come my way. Give me your power and presence so that I will stand and endure in ways that please you.

For I know there is coming a day when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels and flaming fire; inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on all those who do not obey God’s gospel. They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction away from the presence of the Lord and away from the glory of his might when he comes on that day to be glorified in his saints, and to be marvelled at by all who have believed, because of the preaching and testimony of the word of God.

Sanctified Completely

I Thes. 1,2,3&5

Thank you, father, for granting me repentance and saving my soul from hell. Thank you that, by your grace, I have turned to you, father, and left idols and self to serve you, the living and true God, and to wait for your son, my Lord, Jesus the Christ, who  you raised from the dead; who delivers me from the wrath to come.  I receive your word, not as the word of men, but as what it really is, the word of God; living and breathing, cutting and changing, filled with divine grace and life.

Father, today make me increase and abound in love for others. Establish my heart blameless in holiness before you; speak to me and through me to admonish the idle, to encourage the faint hearted, to help the weak, and to be patient with all. Today, by your grace and in communion with your Holy Spirit, and I seek to do good; I rejoice always; I pray without ceasing; I give thanks in all circumstances. I do not quench your spirit, father. I welcome your preaching. You, the God of peace, sanctify me completely.

Destined For Salvation

I Thess. 4&5

Hallelujah, father, fill me today that I will walk in ways that please you. I thank you that my sanctification is your will for me.  Take charge of me today, Holy Spirit, that I will live in holiness and honor. Today, by your grace, I aspire to live a quiet life and to mind my own business, and to work with joy with my hands;  that I may walk properly with all that are around me, and that I may lack nothing in my life.

Your day will come, Lord Jesus, like a thief in the night. Even though I don’t know exactly when, I will not be totally surprised for I am a child of light, a child of day; of that day. I do not sleep as others do, but I keep awake and I’m sober minded.  I put on the breastplate of faith and love, and the sure hope of salvation is my helmet. Father, you did not destine me for wrath, but praise God, you destined me for salvation.

Strivings Cease and Peace Prevails

Lord, I humble myself before you today. You are God; God of heaven above and earth below. I acknowledge and take heart in that. I draw near to you today. Thank you that you draw near to me.  Thank you, Lord, for calling me and choosing me; for cleansing me and transforming me. My life here in this flesh is just a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes away; but the new life that you have given me is eternal and is always with you and in you.

Lord Jesus, I praise the father that you are made wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, and redemption for me. This is not earthy unspiritual wisdom, but your wisdom is pure and peaceable, gentle and open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere.  Out of your wisdom a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who are yours. Strivings cease and peace prevails.

But Now

Romans 7 (cont.)

I do not understand my own actions. Sometimes I do the very thing I hate. But now, by god’s grace, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me, that is in my flesh.  But, hallelujah, I have a desire to do what is right, even though I sometimes lack the ability to carry it out; for I delight in the law of God in my inner man. So my members wage war against my mind’s desire to serve and obey God.

But, praise God, I am in Christ and Christ is in me. He has delivered me from the penalty and possession of sin. There is a new man in me; he is incarcerated in this old sinner flesh, but he is divine in person and performance. He knows God, and he is God.  He is perfectly able to obey God and to bear the fruit of God. So then, with my mind, in my new man, I obey God. I reckon myself dead to sin and alive, forever more, to the spirit of God.

Would Not – Could Not

Romans 7

I rebelled against God. Even after I received Christ, I disobeyed God. Even when I knew what not to do, and even when I didn’t want to disobey, I found there were times when I would not keep the commandments and times when I could not keep the commandments.  But now, I realize I have died to the law through the life and death of my Lord Jesus. This is by god’s grace and purpose so that I am free to belong to Christ. I am released from the law of sin and death, even though it once held me captive, so that I could serve in the new way of the Spirit and not in the old way of the written code.

The law is holy and the commandment is holy and righteous and good; it does not bring death but it shows me that sin is sin and that I have been sinful beyond measure.

Would Be Glorified

1 Peter 2

I have trusted you, heavenly father, and I know that you are good. I long for your spiritual food for me each day as I grow up into salvation. I come to you today as a living stone, chosen and precious to you, to be built up as part of your spiritual house; to be a holy priesthood to offer spiritual sacrifices that are acceptable to you, father, through my Lord Jesus, the Christ.  He is the corner stone, chosen by you, holy and precious, and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.

By your grace and choice, father, I am of a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, one of your own possessions, father, that I may proclaim your excellencies as you have called me out of darkness into your marvelous light.  Once I was not a people, but now I am your person; once I did not receive mercy, but now I have received mercy. I pray others would see God in my deeds and that God,my father, would be glorified.

Live and Move

Acts 17

Heavenly father, you have made this world and all things in it. You are the Lord of heaven and earth. You do not dwell in temples made of hands, neither are you worshiped with my hands as if you needed anything from me. It is you who gives life to all, and breath and all things.  You have kept and chosen your people from all the nations. You have determined all the times beforehand and appointed the boundaries of each life.

By your grace and call, I seek after you, and I find you, for you are near to me. In you, father, through the grace of the Lord Jesus, and the fellowship of your Holy Spirit, I live and move and have my being. I am quick to repent and assured that you are able to keep me as you have kept and raised the Lord Jesus from the dead.  I receive your word with all readiness of mind and search your scripture with gladness and eager anticipation.
